Dear Parents/ Carers,

Thank you for your interest in Elmlea Infants’ School.

Whilst we are unable to offer you a tour of our school in person, we have put together a virtual tour for you to watch. This main focus of this film is our outstanding Reception provision, which is led by our very experienced Early Years staff team. Frequently Asked Questions

Prospective Parents/Carers – Reception 2021/2022

·    How many pupils are at each site?

We are three-form entry from Reception to Year 6 with classes of 30 children. Our Infants’ school has 9 classes, 3 in each year group. Our Junior school has 12 classes, 3 in each year group.

·    How is the site organised?

Elmlea Infants’ School and Elmlea Junior School are part of the Elmlea Schools’ Trust and are both situated on the same site, with separate entrances. Year 2 children attending Elmlea Infants’ School are offered a Year 3 place at the Junior School automatically.

·    How do you cater for high achieving children?

At Elmlea our Ethos aims to provide education that is:

“Stimulating, Fun, Happy, Supportive, Challenging, Everyone is cared for and valued”

Every child works to their own next steps because here at Elmlea we recognise that all children require different support and challenge throughout their education. We aim to provide a stimulating curriculum and we pride ourselves in not only allowing children to ‘take time to be a child’ but also that every child is individual and receives appropriate support and challenge where needed.

·    What support do you offer for children with special needs (SEND)?

Elmlea Infants’ School is an educationally inclusive school, welcoming all children and adults. We recognise individual gifts, talents and differences, celebrate all cultures and religions and value everyone’s opinion. Elmlea Infants’ School is committed to providing an appropriate and high quality education for all children. We believe that all children, including those identified as having ‘special educational needs or disabilities’ have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum, which is accessible to them. All children will be fully included in all aspects of school life. We have a dedicated SENDCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), Miss Jane Simmons, a member of our Senior Leadership Team who provides support to our staffing team.

·    How would my child be supported through the transition period?

Full details of our transition period would be available once you have a confirmed place at Elmlea. We aim to support you and your child to settle in to life at Elmlea the best way we can. We have found that a staggered induction process allows your child the time to adjust to the new routines, develop friendships with other children and get to know the adults in the class in the best way. The induction process lasts around 2 weeks. Prior to your child’s start at Elmlea we will work in conjunction with your child’s Nursery/ Pre-school and parents/carers in order to provide the most supportive start at school as possible.

·   Do you provide wrap around care?

Yes, we currently offer a Breakfast Club which meets in the school hall and also an After School Club which is held in the Northcote Scout Hut at the top of Great Brockeridge. Children attending the After School Club are collected from their classrooms by the supervisors and walked to the hut. Extra-curricular clubs also run throughout the year including sports, art, music and more.
